What does such a transmission oil filter need to look like and what properties does it need to demonstrate to filter all contaminants from the transmission oil and retain its performance, even after 150,000 kilometres of use? Haver & Boecker is used to dealing with such questions. There are many uses for wire mesh. From the flow regulator of a tap to the precision filter element in a spacecraft, metal wire mesh filters and moulded parts perform a wide range of tasks. The customer's wishes and requirements form the basis for producing a product. Even the production line developed for transmission oil filters is based on the client's specifications. Haver & Boecker checks their feasibility and takes on the design of the corresponding tools, equipment, and specialist machines.
Haver & Boecker produces the metal wire mesh on weaving machines manufactured in house. The planning of the specifications (mesh size, wire thickness etc.) and the implementation are based on the staff's many years of experience and skill. High production and storage capacity ensure a continual supply for the onward process chain. Before the mesh is fed into the production line to turn it into an oil filter it is heat treated. Sintering the mesh fixes the wire connections. This prevents the wires coming away from the mesh around the edges. In addition, the mesh can be shaped. HAVER Automotive manufactures it in consideration of the high quality requirements in accordance with ISO TS 16949. The transmission oil filters receive the greatest possible filter surface and the shape specified by the customer by pleating and pressing the fabric. The pressing process includes compacting the fringes in order to prepare the filter for the subsequent plastic injection moulding. This facilitates easy assembly of the end product. Along with standard plastics PA66 and its related products, Haver & Boecker is also able to handle specialist plastics such as heat-resistant PEEK and LCP plastics.
In order to meet the filter's technical cleanliness requirements, transmission oil filters are cleaned with air. On top of this they undergo 100% camera inspection. The 'HAVER Vision System' developed in house is used to visually inspect and monitor mass-produced products, and is continually developed in line with growing quality requirements. Supported by manual interim and downstream visual inspections, Haver & Boecker pursues a zero-error strategy, even beyond the automotive area.
